# Appearance and dark mode

> Choose the dark, light or system theme for your Entryway workspace.

The Entryway workspace opens in the dark theme. You can switch at any time.

1. Open **Settings → Appearance**.
2. Choose a theme:
   * **Dark**: the default, easy on the eyes for long sessions
   * **Light**: bright surfaces for well-lit rooms
   * **System**: follows your device setting, switching between dark and light with it

The change applies straight away. The line under the options says which theme is showing, for example **Following your device: dark right now**.

  Your choice is saved in this browser only. On another browser or device, choose it again. It
  does not change the theme for anyone else in your workspace.

The public website always uses its light theme. These help pages follow your device's light or dark setting.

## Sidebar

On a computer, the sidebar is pinned open by default. Choose **Unpin sidebar** at the top of the sidebar (or press **\[**) to collapse it to icons and give your work more room; it then opens over the page when you point at it. Choose **Pin sidebar** to keep it open again. Your choice is remembered in this browser. On a phone, the sidebar opens from the menu button.
